About Us

We are a culturally sensitive team with a diverse background, so we understand when we are talking about emotions and experiences, there is nothing better than to express ourselves in our native language. Therefore, we try to provide therapy sessions in different languages. Our team is able to offer counselling in French, Brazilian Portuguese & Spanish (other than English).

Juliana Hupsel

Hello, my name is Juliana Hupsel. I hold a Master’s Degree in Counselling Psychology and an Undergraduate Degree in Psychology. I became a psychologist driven by the goal to help people. This drive came from my personal experience of having grown so much as a person after attending counselling during my teenage years.

I have been practicing for more than 15 years, with four of those years being a counselling practice in Canada. I am an evidence-based practitioner with training and experience working with children, teenagers, and adults. I had practiced in several fields, including private practice, educational settings, and health care. I have experience providing crisis intervention and dealing with individuals with acute stress. My training includes models such as Psychodynamics, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Couples Counselling (Gottman Training 1 and 2), Trauma, and Culturally-informed approaches.

I’m able to deliver counselling either in English, Brazilian Portuguese or Spanish, making it easier for clients to express themselves in their preferred language.

Donna Atkinson Smith

Donna has a master’s degree in Clinical Social Work and has been a practicing mental health therapist since 2015. Before becoming a psychotherapist, she taught high school in Houston, Texas, specializing in academically, behaviourally and legally probated high school students. In addition to working as a therapist in private practice, Donna also works as an inpatient clinician in acute psychiatry for Alberta Health Services where she has been mentored by psychiatrists who specialize in personality disorders, trauma, addiction, anxiety and mood disorders.

Donna takes a neurobiological and family systems approach to help clients understand the way thoughts and beliefs impact emotions and drive behaviours. Partnering with the client to challenge unhelpful beliefs (which may contribute to anxiety, depression and relationship challenges) can help clients get unstuck and more focused on healthy functioning and personal growth.

In addition to being certified in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Accelerated Resolution Therapy (trauma therapy), Donna is also trained in Dialectical Behavioural Therapy and Narrative Therapy.

Donna is also certified in Brené Brown’s Daring Way™ and Rising Strong™ curriculum. She incorporates Dr. Brown’s research on shame and vulnerability in the counselling process.

Our Approach

It is our desire to work collaboratively with you to help you reach your full potential and find healing. As each individual comes to therapy with a different background and experience, we adopt an eclectic approach, using a combination of strategies depending on your needs, likes and dislikes. We think of counselling as a great opportunity to develop new and adaptive ways of coping with the difficulties in life.

We view those individuals seeking therapy as having personal strength and self awareness.

It is our believe that the therapeutic relationship is the most important aspect of a successful experience in counselling. We work to build a safe, non-judgmental, and trusting environment for clients. The values we live by are transparency, honesty and respect. We believe in building strong relationships based on trust and integrity. It is our goal to make you feel heard and understood in order to promote positive changes in your life by building resiliency and making sense of your story and experiences.

There will be no waitlist for you to get the help you need. We keep a few appointments reserved for new clients, so we can get you in quick to discuss your needs. As we also recognize the importance of finding a therapist who ‘clicks’ and is a good fit for you, we offer a free 20-minutes video consultation. We couldn’t be more excited to start this journey with you and to navigate together the process of finding solutions for your life.
